Beyond scorecards: How AI is changing what great coaching looks like
For years, coaching meant behaviours observed, boxes ticked, ratings assigned, often too late to make a difference. It was the best tool available. It is no longer enough. AI can now analyse every conversation, not just the handful a manager has time to review. Patterns surface. Skill gaps get caught in real time. Feedback arrives when it actually matters. High-performing teams are already twice as likely to use AI for coaching (Salesforce) and the gap is widening. But the technology isn't the hard part. The hard part is what changes when the scorecard disappears, how coaching is defined, how managers lead, and what happens when organisations adopt AI tools without evolving the philosophy behind them. The future of sales coaching isn't a better scorecard. It's something more powerful, and more human, than that.
